Cool Backgrounds: Colorful Spectrum

On the eve of this new year, we thought it would be appropriate to share a festive, cool background image of a colorful spectrum. The spectrum background was created in Photoshop using the noise, motion, and box blur filters, with some gradient overlays and blending applied as well. It’s a pretty cool effect for a background image. The background would look great in photo manipulations, on its own in web pages, and anything else you can think of. The file is a .png (was produced in 16-bit color) and is 1248 x 1200 pixels.

Photoshop Textures: Diamond Background

In this free Photoshop texture download, you will receive a set of 5(!) diamond background textures, all of which are grunge textures. The background textures are a standard 1400 x 1400 pixels and have gradient fade-to-black edges, which means you don’t have to do anything to get them web-ready.

The diamond backgrounds consist of five color schemes: red, monochrome, grunge pink, umber, and circus. Here is a preview of what you will get in this free download of Photoshop textures:

7 Victorian Damask Background Textures

For today’s design freebie, we’re giving away a pack of seven(!!) Victorian damask background textures. These textures are web-ready with faded gradient edges on each so you don’t have to do anything to prep them; simply change your site’s background color to the color referenced above each image so it continues to fade to that specific color for larger screen sizes. The images are 1400 x 1400 pixels, giving you a lot of space to work with. I’ve cut a width-wide slice of each so you can get a preview of the background textures (they’ve also been reduced in size from 1400 px to 685 px). The set includes a Victorian grunge texture, as well as others in shades of yellow, black, silver, pink, violet, and white.

This white texture uses #ffffff for the gradient edges.

Victorian Damask Background Texture: Violet

The violet background texture uses #eee9e6 as its gradient edge fade.

The silver Victorian background texture uses #e9eff0 for the faded edges.

Victorian grunge background is simply #ffffff.

Soft Glow Background

Abstract, cool web backgrounds are in high demand these days, and there are many ways you can pack a lot of punch into a small image size to save on load times for your users. Today, we’ve created a set of 8 web backgrounds in various colors–including the source files!!! These backgrounds span 1600 x 50 pixels, and the image resolution can be minimized even more if you so desire. The soft glow effect is created from a 1-pixel line of different vertical gradients, so crop the PNG down to a 1-px line, span it down the page, and you’ll get the same effect. Make sure to set the background color of your web page the same as the edge color on the image, and you’ll be golden!

Vintage Travel Background

Today we’re giving away a very special design freebie–a web-ready, cool background that has a vintage travel theme. The background was designed using found objects, and the free download is in Photoshop format, allowing you to change and move around objects, even swapping the portrait for one of your own if you want! The background has fade-out gradient edges so you don’t have to worry about varying monitors’ screen sizes, making it web-ready. Cool backgrounds are kind of our thing, and web-ready background packs are something we like to give out from time to time. So for today’s design freebie, we’re giving away a set of these sweet night glow web backgrounds. These backgrounds are meant to be used as web backgrounds that sit behind a ~1000 px content area, creating depth and texture in your web design.

Photoshop Textures: Grunge Rusted Bolts

Here’s a spin off of the grunge-rust look: a dark background image or Photoshop texture featuring rusted bolts that outline all four edges of the canvas. The background texture comes from one of our photographs, some manipulation, gradient overlays, cross-processing, and grungifying. It would look great on its own as a background image, and at 2700 x 1659 pixels it has a lot of possibility in print media as well.

Free Hi-Res Dark Grunge Texture

This is a free download of a hi-res dark grunge texture for background textures in Photoshop and related programs. The dark texture image was produced from two separate images of espresso grounds and spilled coffee, along with a gradient overlay and some layer blending in Photoshop.
