Everyone needs a little inspiration sometimes. Here are some of Ars Grafik’s favorite resources of great artists and designers who can’t help but inspire.
By Ars Grafik
As we all know, design inspiration can come from anywhere, and the Internet is teeming with incredibly talented artists from all backgrounds, working in every media known to man. There are some days when I bookmark 40 or 50 illustrators, artists, graphic designers, videos, or just great websites. So I thought it was time to start sharing some of my favorite design inspiration resources with you. All images are copyright by their respective artists. Take a look–they’re all definitely worth a gander!
The Art and Artists
SFMOMA’s ArtScope
This first resource is an incredible Flash-based art education/visual browsing tool put out by San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art that allows users to view all the works in their collection. Simply click on an image, and you can view it up close while learning about the artist and the work. You could spend hours looking through their exhibits.
Paul Flinders
Paul Flinders is an incredible artist and musician based in Lawrence, Kansas. I came upon his work several years ago at a great little cafe/artspace called Mirth and instantly fell in love with his bird series. Unfortunately, I lost his business card and couldn’t remember his name, much to my chagrin. However, being the internet sleuth that I am, I was finally able to track him down. Lo and behold, Paul’s got an incredible amount of work for as young as he is, and his portraits are beautiful too. A great illustrator and painter. Highly recommended.
Stephen Wiltshire
You’ve probably read about Stephen Wiltshire from this article in the UK Daily Mail, but if you haven’t read it yet, please do. Wiltshire is a highly gifted artist who can draw the New York skyline (or any other skyline, for that matter) from memory.
Ummmmmmmm…… WOW?
Broussouloux Benjamin
The Pompidou is one of the coolest museums I’ve ever experienced. Not only does it house some of the best artwork in the world, but it is a work of art in and of itself–and it’s strikingly modern (of course), especially compared to the old world streets of Paris that encompass it. This photograph by Broussouloux Benjamin was taken from the Pompidou and overlooks the courtyard. The tilt-shift and typography effects that he’s used heighten the overall image and give it a lot of depth. This is one image in a series, so go check out the rest.
Atelier Martino & Jaña
This post from design studio Atelier Martino & Jaña is just one example of their colorful, fun, and funky designs.
Lee Crutchley
I don’t remember what I did before the internet. Had my nose in a book a lot, I think. How about you?
Meredith Dittmar
Incredibly creative–sculpture, dioramas, provoking content.
Kevin Conor Keller
This piece of Keller and his child is beautiful. Indie, hand-drawn elements, vintage photo… what more could you want?
And one more from Keller because we like the Mad Hatter as much as he does!
Joerg Barton
And finally, we leave you with a video. Awesome art, illustration, and animation. Hope to see more great work from Barton!
